Andrei Andreyevich Vasilevskiy, also known as the “Big Cat” and “Vasy,” is a Russian professional ice hockey goaltender for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Lightning as the 19th overall pick in the first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Vasilevskiy is currently recognized as one of the premier goaltenders in the NHL.

Vasilevskiy began his career with the Tolpar Ufa in the Minor Hockey League during the 2010-11 season and went on to play for the Salavat Yulaev Ufa after getting selected in the first round (7th overall) in the 2011 KHL Junior draft. His impressive play soon caught the attention of the Tampa Bay Lightning who drafted him in 2014. Notably, Vasilevskiy began his professional career with Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League (AHL) before making his debut with the Lightning in December 2014 in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Vasilevskiy’s prominence rose over following seasons which resulted in him earning the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goaltender for the 2018-19 season.

He also played a pivotal role in guiding the Lightning to consecutive Stanley Cup championships in 2020 and 2021 while capturing the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the 2021 playoffs. Vasilevskiy also holds the NHL record for most wins in a single postseason with 18 victories in 2020. Additionally, Vasilevskiy led the league in wins for five consecutive seasons between 2017-18 and 2021-2022.

Andrei Vasilevskiy resides in South Tampa with his wife and their son, while he spends his off-season in Moscow,

South Tampa is considered by many people to be the affluent and hip epicenter of Tampa. The neighborhoods of SoHo, Hyde Park, Bayshore, Davis Island, Palma Ceia, make up the South Tampa area and it is possible that Vasilevskiy resides in one of these places.

Prior to jumping to their current residence, Vasilevskiy and wife, Ksenia shared an apartment in Syracuse, New York while Andrei played for the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL.
