Evgeni Vladimir Malkin is a professional Russian ice hockey centre and an alternate captain for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League (NHL). Malkin debuted in 2006 after his selection in 2004 by the Penguins.

He made an immediate impact in the league within his debut and won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's best rookie. On June 12, 2009, the Penguins won the Stanley Cup finals against the Detroit Red Wings where Evgeni contributed 12 goals and 22 assists, receiving the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs. His incredible 36 points in the playoffs were the highest since the legendary Wayne Gretzky in 1993. In 2012, he finally claimed his first Hart Memorial Trophy and became the second player to claim the Art Ross and Hart Memorial Trophy in the same year.

Malkin also has represented his country Russia on the international stage. He played in two IIHF World U18 and three World Junior Championships where he earned one gold medal, two silver medals, and one bronze medal in his junior career. In 2006, he was named the most valuable player of the tournament in 2012. He earned a spot on the IIHF All-Time Russia Team in 2020.
