Mikko Rantanen is a Finnish Ice-hockey forward, who is currently serving as an alternate captain for the Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League (NHL). Born on October 29, 1996 in Nousiainen, Finland, he was selected 10th overall in the first round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche. Rantanen made his NHL debut that same year against the Minnesota Wild on October 8, 2015.

Rantanen started his career in the SM-liiga with HC TPS as a 16-year-old. After spending three seasons with them, Rantanen became eligible for the NHL. He signed his first (entry-level) contract with the Colorado Avalanche on July 13, 2015, and was assigned to the AHL's San Antonio Rampage. While there, he earned a spot at the All-Star Game, and became the second-youngest participant in the AHL All-Star Game in history. He was called by the Avalanche to the NHL in the 2016-2027 season. Rantanen scored his first NHL goal in the same year and recorded a hat trick in the following year. In the 2022-2023 season, Rantanen achieved another milestone of becoming the third Finnish player ever in Colorado Avalanche’s history to surpass 50 goals in the regular season.

Rantanen's achievements include winning the Stanley Cup (in 2022) and gaining honors of being selected to two NHL All-Star Games (in 2019 and 2023). Additionally, Rantanen also made it to the NHL second All-Star Team in 2021. Moreover, Rantanen has represented the Avalanche in over 530 games while scoring 566 career regular season points.
