Brittney Griner or Brittney Yvette Griner is an American professional basketball player for the Atlanta Dream. She was a first overall pick of the 2013 WNBA Draft for the Phoenix Mercury and led them 2014 WNBA Championship. She has earned many awards, including the 2017 and 2019 WNBA Scoring Champion and she was the eight-time WNBA Block Leader from 2013 to 2019 and again in 2021. Additionally, she was the 2017 and 2019 WNBA Peak Performer and the 2014 and 2015 Defensive Player of the Year. Griner played for Nimitz High School in Houston, Texas, where she had one of the most dominating high school careers in the 21st century. She set a single-game record of seven dunks against Aldine High School and averaged 5.9 blocks per game during her junior year. Her video of dunking during high school games went viral which led to a meeting with Shaquille O’Neal.

As of January 2025, Griner is a 10-time WNBA All-Star Player. Griner represented the United States in the 2016, 2020, and 2024 Summer Olympics Women’s Basketball Championships, winning gold medals in all of those events. By the end of the 2024 season, has totaled 812 career blocks, ranking third all-time. Averaging 2.6 blocks per game, she is on pace to become the league's all-time leader in blocks.
