Kolkata Knight Riders lifted their third IPL title, as they defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final by eight wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 26, 2024. Batting first, the Orange Army was rocked early, as its power-packed opening duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were sent packing by Vaibhav Arora and Mitchell Starc inside the first two overs of the innings.
The Sunrisers kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for an underwhelming 113 in 18.3 overs. Andre Russell picked up three wickets while Starc and Harshit Rana chipped in with two each. SRH skipper Pat Cummins was the leading run-scorer for his team. He scored 24 off 19 deliveries, helping set a target of 114. Although KKR lost Sunil Narine for a two-ball six, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39 off 32) and Venkatesh Iyer (52* off 26) ensured the target was chased down by the 11th over.
