Igor Shesterkin is a Russian professional ice hockey goaltender. He was born on December 30, 1995, in Moscow. He began his youth hockey journey with Krylya Sovetov Moscow before Spartak Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League drafted him 43rd overall in the 2012 KHL Draft when he was just 16 years old. His first season with Spartak took place at the MHL level, playing for MHK Spartak during the 2012–13 season.


Few goalies in NHL history have had the immediate impact that Shesterkin made when he joined the New York Rangers in the middle of the 2019-20 season. Shesterkin developed into one of the top goalies in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). From 2016-17 through 2018-19, he had impressive stats with SKA St. Petersburg, going 71-12-10. In his final season, he had a remarkable 24-4-0 record with a 1.11 goals-against average and .953 save percentage. Shesterkin began the new season in the AHL with Hartford, where he excelled with a record of 17-4-3, a 1.90 GAA, and a .934 save percentage. Recalled to the Rangers on January 6, 2020, he won his NHL debut the following night, stopping 29 shots in a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.


In the 2022 Eastern Conference First Round, Shesterkin set a Rangers record with 79 saves in a 4-3 triple-overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He then capped off an extraordinary season by winning the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's best goaltender for the 2021-22 season. In 53 games, he led the league with a 2.09 GAA and a .935 save percentage.
