Connor Bedard is a Canadian professional ice hockey center playing with the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League. He was considered one of the exceptional prospects in the NHL. He was selected as the first-round pick by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2023 NHL Entry draft, and debuted in the same year.

Before the NHL, Bedard was selected as the first overall pick by the Regina Pats in the 2020 WHL Entry draft, making history in the WHL as an inaugural player to be granted exceptional status. He claimed the Jim Piggott Memorial Trophy as the top rookie player of the league in 2021. Bedard's career reached new heights in the WHL as he won the prestigious Bob Clarke Trophy in 2023 as the leading scorer in the league. In addition to these achievements, he won the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy for his incredible contributions as the most outstanding player. His hard work and determination in the WHL earned him titles like Canadian Hockey League's top scorer and player of the year award. His achievements in the WHL made him a strong player and also a popular prospect in the NHL.

Connor Bedard was born on July 17, 2005 in North Vancouver, British Columbia. He has an elder sister named Madi. The siblings were born to parents Tom and Melanie Bedard.

Madi and Connor grew up in North Vancouver. The elder sister Madisen is a trained gymnast who played an important role in Bedard’s life to improve his athletic skills. During their childhood, Connor and Madi would participate in friendly competitions where their passion for sports outshined. Madi was the one who joined Connor on the ice for skating. Connor slowly flourished his skills and decided to pursue a career in ice hockey.

While Madi dedicated herself to gymnastics. The siblings enjoyed a regular childhood like any other kid and their parents made sure to offer them comfort and encouraged them to pursue their career in sports. Despite their different professions Madi acknowledged her brother Connor and was the first one to influence him to play hockey in the future.

During the pandemic in 2019, Connor experienced a temporary pause in the WHL with Regina Pats. While in delays, Connor took a chance to play in Sweden. Madi stood by her brother during these challenges and went to join her brother overseas to support Connor.

Amid the tension of the pandemic, Madi played an important role in supporting her brother in his hockey journey. She was studying kinesiology at Fraser University but shifted her plans to assist Connor during his time in Sweden. She took care of her brother to comfort him. Beyond comfort, she took care of his regular training and made sure it remained on time. Madi has been a strong pillar of support to her brother. Connor improved his skills in Sweden and that set a base for his future in the WHL and NHL. Bedrad has also represented Canada on the international stage, winning a championship with the Canadian national under-18 team in 2021 and with the Canadian national junior team in 2022 and 2023.

Connor Bedard's Journey to NHL

Bedard was selected as the first overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry draft by the Chicago Blackhawks on June 28, 2023, and became the second player in the team's history to be chosen as the first overall pick after Kane Patrick in 2007. He also became the first player from British Columbia to be selected as the first overall pick after Ryan Nugent Hopkins in 2011.

Bedrad signed a three-year entry-level contract on his 18th birthday, July 17 with the Blackhawks and debuted on October 10, 2023. He is currently playing with the Blackhawks and his journey ahead seems bright in the NHL. Bedard is one of the youngest players in the NHL who has the potential to establish themselves as the strongest players.
