George Peter DeBoer is a former Canadian ice hockey player turned coach. Born on June 13, 1968, is currently serving as a head coach for the Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League and also a co-owner of the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

Contributing as a coach for more than 13 seasons, Peter has earned the Coach of the Year award twice in the OHL. He took the role of the head coach for multiple teams including Detroit Whalers, Plymouth Whalers, and Kitchener Rangers. During his time with the Kitchener, he led them to win the Memorial Cup in 2003.

Beyond the OHL, Peter took the role of head coach for various other teams in the NHL. He served for the Florida Panthers from 2008 to 2011, the New Jersey Devils and JGolden Knights. Throughout his coaching years, Peter has contributed a lot to his teams.

Peter DeBoer’s Journey to NHL

His journey to the NHL is marked by excellence and many roles. Starting with the Detroit Junior Red Wings in the 1994–95 season as an assistant coach, he slowly earned the position of head coach and general manager for the Detroit Whalers during the 1995 off-season.

He established himself as one of the best coaches over the years. During his time with the Plymouth Whalers Peter guided to success in the late 1999s to 2000s. One of the notable moments of his career was the Matt Leyden Trophy as OHL Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2000. Peter led them to reach the J. Ross Robertson Cup Finals in multiple seasons. He continued his coaching journey with the Kitchener Rangers. Despite the tough start, he guided the team to a Hamilton Spectator Trophy in 2003 and a memorable Memorial Cup victory.

In 2008, Peter debuted in the NHL as a head coach for the Florida Panthers and led them through many competitive seasons. After parting ways with Panthers, Peter joined the New Jersey Devils in 2011, where he achieved significant success by leading them to the Stanley Cup Finals during his first season.

In 2015, he joined the San Jose Sharks as a head coach and led them to the Stanley Cup Finals in his inaugural season. Peter continued with the Sharks till 2019 and contributed a lot to the team. In 2020, Peter joined the Vegas Golden Knights and helped them to reach the Western Conference Finals in his first season. However, his tenure ended with them after the team failed to make the playoff appearance.
