Nikhil Chaudhary (Player of the Match, 42 runs off 31 balls and 1/15 off 3 overs): Pretty grateful for the opportunity this season! I was training hard before the competition and it is paying off. Today, the wicket was a bit sticky, so I got used to the pace of the pitch first and then went for my shots. With the ball too, I got the length right.
7:11 pm local time (1:41 pm IST):
Hobart Hurricanes win by 50 runs with 3 balls to spare!
Nikhil Chaudhary 42 (31) | Chris Jordan - 3/22 (3.3) Moises Henriques 22 (19) | Jackson Bird - 4/16 (4)
Regular wickets and perfect reading of the pitch helped the home team win against the Sixers, who came here after a four-match winning streak! As many as 9 overs of spin yielded 4 wickets and gave away only 52 runs. That proved to be the difference between the sides as the wicket started to make the ball grip.
The pace trio of Riley Meredith, Billy Stanlake and Chris Jordan did their bit too, and the change-of-pace deliveries also worked really well for them! Even without one of their mainstays, and captain, Nathan Ellis, the Hurricanes were able to tie the away side down all through. Ben McDermott's leadership was proactive.
The team in magenta just could not stop losing wickets. Not a single batter went past even 25 runs! When this happens in a run chase, most of the time, the side ends up on the wrong end of the spectrum and things were no different here.
19.3 Chris Jordan to Jackson Bird, CLEANS HIM UP! THE HURRICANES GET THIS WIN WITHOUT THEIR REGULAR SKIPPER NATHAN ELLIS! Full and straight, you miss, I hit! Bird make a bit of room and went for the big shot. He could not put bat to ball and the stumps got smashed!
19.2 Chris Jordan to Todd Murphy, Oh! Full and slow around off-stump. Sliced off the front foot to the deep cover point region for a single. The fielder, who was looking into the sun, did not have his sunglasses on.
19.1 Chris Jordan to Jackson Bird, over the wicket, full at the pads now. A leg-bye off the attempted flick shot down to short fine-leg!
