That's all from this contest as I, Lavil alongside Bidipto take your leave. Switch tabs on Sportskeeda to follow the Sydney Derby. Till then, SEE YA!
Mitchell Owen (Player of the Match, 101* off 64 balls): Things went out of place in the first match, I tried to hit the ball too hard, but today, I struck it well and was more clear about my tactics. The coaching staff wanted me to open. I am a bowling option too, so, will get that part of the work done too if needed later on. The idea is to make the Hurricanes reach the playoffs this time and I am on it as part of my work.
It's time for the post-match presentation!
7:15 pm local time, 1:45pm IST: Hobart Hurricanes beat Perth Scorchers by 8 wickets
Hurricanes: 156/2 after 19.2 overs Mitchell Owen: 104(64b)* | Shai Hope: 38(35b) Jason Behrendorff: 2/21 (4 overs)
This has been a great game. Hurricanes were chasing their first win of the season and here they are at their home venue. Also, they have managed to register their first win over Scorchers since 2013 at the venue.
Mitchell Owen and Caleb Jewell walked out to open the batting and looked to start off with a bang before Jewell was dismissed. Owen then joined forces with Shai Hope and together, the pair chipped in with a partnership worth 101 runs. While Hope was done later in the game, Owen stood tall and scored boundaries, eventually getting to his maiden BBL hundred. Rightly so, he capped off the match with a boundary with the Hurricanes going on to register their first win of the season.
The Scorchers were listless with the ball as after striking on the last ball of the powerplay, they would need another 10-odd overs to get another batter dismissed. Jason Behrendorff struck twice with the other bowlers failing to create enough chances. Similarly, their fielding was all over the place as they failed to hold onto the chances that came their way.
19.2 Lance Morris to Mitchell Owen, HOBART HURRICANES GET THE JOB DONE! Short on off-stump at 142 kph. Owen backs away and carves it over cover from the back foot to pick up the winning boundary!
19.1 Lance Morris to Mitchell Owen, FREE HIT! HUNDRED UP FOR MITCHELL OWEN! Full outside off-stump. Clobbered over the in-field to the deep extra cover fence from deep in the crease!
19.1 Lance Morris to Ben McDermott, over the wicket, OH DEAR! Full toss over waist height on off-stump. Pulled away to the deep backward square area for a single. Free-hit coming up for the no-ball on height!

18.6 Jhye Richardson to Ben McDermott, OWEN REMAINS OFF STRIKE! Really full around off-stump. McDermott drives it down to long-off off the front foot and takes a single. That is all they get off this delivery!
18.5 Jhye Richardson to Ben McDermott, yorker again on middle-stump. Squirted to the short mid-wicket fielder from deep in the crease, no run.
18.4 Jhye Richardson to Ben McDermott, OH! Full and aimed at the pads this time in the block hole. McDermott gets leg-byes somehow to the left of the keeper as Inglis gets a glove on it! Two runs here.
10 runs needed off 9 balls now
18.3 Jhye Richardson to Ben McDermott, GOOD BALL! Yorker on off-stump. McDermott digs this out from the block hole but gets no run for it.
18.2 Jhye Richardson to Mitchell Owen, yorker on off-stump this time. Drilled out of the block hole to the deep mid-wicket region for a single.
18.1 Jhye Richardson to Mitchell Owen, FOUR RUNS! Full outside off-stump. Smoked over the left of the bowler from deep in the crease by going across for a boundary!
18.1 Jhye Richardson to Mitchell Owen, over the wicket, full and WIDE outside the line of off-stump on this occasion. A play and a miss alright but an extra delivery nonetheless.
Two overs to go, Hurricanes need 16 runs from 12 balls. Jhye Richardson [3-0-24-0] will be bowling out now. The real question, who bowls the last over?
