The NASCAR Xfinity Series was established in 1982 and is the second-highest level of professional stock-car racing run by NASCAR. It has always proved a very successful pathway for those seeking to progress into the NASCAR Cup Series. It is a springboard to great heights for most champions and drivers who eventually become big stars. At first, it was called the Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series and the name was changed several times, including the Busch Series and Nationwide Series, before it became the Xfinity Series in 2015. This change occurred after a sponsorship deal with Comcast.
The series features different races on different tracks, such as short tracks, big speedways, and road courses. This also includes international races in cities like Mexico City and Montreal to prove that it can evolve and grow around the globe. It has become more of a proving ground for younger drivers over the last few seasons for the series, with people such as William Byron, Austin Cindric, and Justin Allgaier getting their starts here and eventually making their way up to the Cup Series. Recent news shows big changes in the series. Stewart-Haas Racing said it would stop its operations in both the Cup and Xfinity Series after the 2024 season, which is a significant change for one of the more well-known teams of NASCAR. At the same time, the series continues working hard to develop young talent: witness the signing of 18-year-old rookie William Sawalich by Joe Gibbs Racing to race in the 2025 season. Sawalich will drive the No. 18 Toyota showing that this series does indeed help shape future stars. In 2024, Justin Allgaier won the championship for the series keeping up the well-established tradition of close and exciting races.
