Austin Reed played college football for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and was the quarterback for the team. He started his college football career with the Southern Illinois Salukis in 2018 but transferred to West Florida Argonauts in the summer of 2019. Reed spent three seasons with the Argonauts before moving on to Western Kentucky after the conclusion of the 2021 college football season. He committed to play football for the Hilltoppers and spent two seasons (2022 and 2023) before declaring for the NFL draft.
Reed started his true freshman season with the Salukis but he did not play a single game for them. When Reed transferred to West Florida, he had a staggering 40 touchdowns, 4089 passing yards, 149 rushing yards, and 6 rushing TDs. Reed led the Argonauts to a 13-2 record in 2019. After a stellar performance in the previous season, Reed did not play the entire 2020 season. In the 2021 college football season, Reed posted 3,375 passing yards, 38 passing touchdowns, and 3 rushing TDs.
After the end of the 2021 season, Reed again entered the NCAA transfer portal and committed to play football for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. The 2022 season would go down as Reed’s best and he racked up huge numbers such as 4,744 passing yards, 40 passing TDs, 224 rushing yards and 8 rushing touchdowns. In his final season playing for the Hilltoppers, Reed put up 3,324 passing yards, 31 passing TDs, and 4 rushing touchdowns.
Reed finished his college football career with the Hilltoppers and ranked fourth in the program’s history in terms of pass attempts, third in pass completions, second in touchdown passes, and fourth in passing yards. Reed was also tied for 8th for most wins as a starting quarterback for Western Kentucky. Reed was C-USA Newcomer of the Year and Second-team All-CUSA in 2022.
