American football player Byron Murphy II is a defensive tackle for the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL. Murphy was selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft by the Seattle Seahawks with the 16th overall pick. He played three years of collegiate football at the University of Texas. Born on September 8, 2002, the Texas native attended and played high school football at DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas. Several scouting websites such as 247Sports, Rivals, and ESPN ranked him among the top 30 defensive linemen coming out of high school. The Texas native decided to stay closer to home and joined the University of Texas where he played football for the Texas Longhorns football team. In his true freshman year in 2021, Murphy II accumulated 15 tackles playing in 12 games and was considered an honorable mention for Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year. The following season as a sophomore, Murphy II increased his tackle count to 26 from 13 games.

His best year came in 2023 as a junior where he finished the year as the winner of the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year Award and made the First-team All-Big 12. His 29 tackles, 5 sacks, and 7 quarterback hurries were in addition to one receiving and one rushing touchdown as well. As of week 5 of the 2024 NFL season, Murphy has 6 total tackles and 0.5 sacks.
