Florida-born Chauncey “C.J.” Gardner-Johnson plays as a safety for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints as the 105th overall pick in round 4 in the 2019 NFL Draft. Gardner-Johnson was named to the PFWA ALL-Rookie Team as he finished with 42 total tackles in his debut season. He started 31 games for the Saints recording 122 solo tackles in three seasons. Gardner-Johnson was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in August 2022. Despite suffering a kidney injury in his season, he started 12 games recording career-high 61 solo tackles. Moreover, Gardner-Johnson had four tackles in the Eagles' 38–35 loss to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

Gardner-Johnson signed with the Detroit Lions on a one-year contract in March 2023. He sustained a non-contact leg injury in July 2023, during the Lions training camp. The injury cost him his debut season beginning with the Lions. He could only start two games the whole season being cleared active in January. At the end of his contract with the Lions, Gardner-Johnson has decided to move back to the Philadelphia Eagles signing a three-year contract.
