Rayne Dakota Prescott, popularly known as Dak Prescott is an American football quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys as of the 2024 NFL season. The Cowboys selected him with the 135th overall pick in the fourth round ofthe 2016 NFL draft. The 6 ft 2 in signal caller attended Haughton High School in Haughton, Louisiana where he played for the Buccaneers. Dak led Haughton to become 2010 District 1-AAAA champions on the back of a senior year performance where he threw for more than 2,800 yards and added 951 yards on the ground along with scoring 56 total touchdowns. The former 3-star recruit coming out of high school went to Mississippi State University, where he played for 5 years, from 2011 to 2015. The Sulphur native after getting redshirted his true freshman season in 2011, went on to start every game for the Bulldogs in the next four years The 3-time pro bowler finished his collegiate career by passing for 9,376 yards while simultaneously racking up 2,521 yards on the ground alongside scoring 111 total touchdowns. Prescott’s start in the league was a bit different than other superstars at his position due to him being drafted in the 4th round. However, Tony Romo’s injury in the 2016 preseason opened the doors for Dak and he ran away with it. His play while earning him a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie team in 2016, also bagged him the 2016 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. The 2022 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year has three seasons with 4,000 passing yards under his belt. Prescott’s best seasons came in 2021 and 2023 where he recorded 37 and 36 passing touchdowns respectively.

According to People, Prescott is the youngest child of his parents Nathaniel and Peggy Prescott. The couple had three sons and one daughter together, named Tad, Jace, Dak, and Natalie Prescott-Smith. He also has an older half-brother, Elliott Prescott, from his father’s previous marriage. Later, during his schooling years, his parents got divorced and his mother was left to raise him and his siblings alone.

Prescott’s oldest brother, Tad Prescott also played as a tight end during his college years at Northwestern State University in Louisiana. Similarly, his other brother Jace, played as an Offensive lineman at Northwestern State. Unfortunately, while struggling with mental health issues, he committed suicide.

Prescott’s mother is Peggy Prescott. After struggling with colon cancer, she passed away in 2013. She was 51 years old, and at that time, Prescott was quarterbacking for Mississippi State. In honor of his late mother, he established the Faith Fight Finish Foundation, a nonprofit organization with a mission to help people facing adversity (via the Faith Fight Finish Foundation website). He also wears the No.4 jersey in memory of his late mother, whose birthday is on September 4.
