Jackson Powers-Johnson, born on January 23, 2003, began his high school football career with the Corner Canyon High School in his hometown Draper, Utah. The 6-foot-3, 320-pound player was a four-year letterman and a captain for three years. During his high school days, Powers-Johnson nationally ranked as a top five center and a consensus four-star recruit.
Powers-Johnson embarked on his collegiate football journey with Oregon over offers from BYU, Liberty, Missouri, Nebraska, Utah, Utah State and Washington State. As a freshman in 2021, Johnson played in a variety of positions at Oregon. The Utah native played 131 snaps as a reserve before transitioning to the defensive line for the 2021 Alamo Bowl. He finished his rookie season with two tackles and 126 snaps along the offensive line.
In his sophomore season, Powers-Johnson was slotted back into the offensive line which helped in gaining more playing time with the Oregon Ducks. He was still a part-time player and rotated in multiple positions such as right guard, left guard and center throughout the season.
In 2022, Powers-Johnson played in 12 out of 13 games and made his first career start as a right guard in Oregon’s win over Utah. Although he doubled his snap count to 400, Johnson kept rotating in the offensive line as a part-time player. He showcased his versatility in both center and guard positions.
Powers-Johnson finally took over as the full-time center in 2023 for the Oregon Ducks. He cemented himself as the highest-graded center in college football with increased playing time. In 2023, Powers-Johnson allowed no sacks, no quarterback hits and allowed just one pressure in 497 pass-blocking snaps.
With a pass-blocking grade of 91.3, a run-blocking grade of 85.2 and a top overall grade of 84.6, Powers-Johnson has cemented himself as one of the top center prospects in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. In 2023, he became the first Pac-12 player in the conference history to win the Rimington Trophy which is given to the nation’s best center.
Along with that, he received first-team All-American honors from the AFCA, Associated Press, FWAA, Sporting News and Walter Camp. Following three successful seasons with the Ducks, Powers-Johnson declared himself as an early entrant for the 2024 NFL Draft.
