Williams attended Wallace-Rose Hill High School, where he began his football career. He started his collegiate career with the University of North Carolina in 2018. As a freshman in 2018, Williams played in 11 games, while rushing 43 times for 224 yards and recording five touchdowns. As a sophomore in 2019, he played 13 games while recording 5 touchdowns.
