During his high school days, Ford was ranked as the 81st best outside linebacker across the nation and is a former three-star recruit coming out of high school. Ford initially committed to play college football for the Utah Utes, however, he changed his decision and committed to Texas instead.

In his final year with the Longhorns, Ford had another productive season with 91 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 1.0 sacks. After the conclusion of the 2023 season, Ford declared for the 2024 NFL draft.
