The five-star tackle recruit from 2021 class played his first two years of high school football as a defensive end. He had enrolled into Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He went on to tally 95 tackles and seven sacks en route to winning the state title.
He also competed in basketball and track at Catholic Memorial before transferring to IMG Academy. He had not played much offense before at Waukesha. He was forced to move to offensive tackle due to slew of injuries at IMG Academy.
Latham entered University of Alabama in 2021 and started playing immediately as a true freshman for Crimson Tide. He stole the starting right tackle spot in 2022 and started 25 games at that position in his stellar career.
According to PFF, he was graded 80.8 on true pass sets on 550 snaps which are considered excellent. He had a 80.5 overall grade for the 2023 season. His 2023 pass blocking grade (81.7) is slightly better than his run blocking grade (77.7) which shows his excellent ability to protect the quarterback.
Latham has a broad and thick frame, well-rounded build with no bad weight at 342 pounds. He is very light on his feet with explosive first step. Due to his elite strength and movement skills, his power at point of attack is absolutely imposing.
However, he has undisciplined tendencies like committing 18 penalties the last two seasons. He is also susceptible to losing ground against bull-rush which is quite surprising considering his massive size. He is projected to go in the Late 1st/Early 2nd round.
