Joel Michael Bitonio plays as a left guard for the Cleveland Browns in the National Football League. The Cleveland Browns drafted Bitonio with the 35th overall pick in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. In 2015, he was put on injured reserve but took part in ten games that year. Subsequently, after suffering an injury to his foot in week five of the next season, Bitonio was again put on the injured reserve list. In 2017, Bitonio signed a five-year contract extension with the Browns. After that season, he received his first Pro Bowl selection and was then named to a second-team All-Pro squad. He has been selected into first-team All-Pro teams consecutively for five years. He received The Walter Payton NFL Man of The Year in 2022. More recently in 2023, he became the only player who has been awarded PFWA Dino Lucarelli Good Guy more than twice.

Bitonio committed to play collegiate football at the University of Nevada. After redshirting through his freshman season, he played in each of the 14 games in 2010. He was acclaimed as the superior offensive guard for the team in the subsequent season. Also, he was chosen as a senior to be part of the preseason All-Mountain West second team. Bitonio attended the Long Beach Wilson High School, where he received selection into both the Long Beach Dream Team for basketball and football. Besides that, he was also recognized as the best-shot putter in his league.
