While the NFL season comes to a halt in February for fans, teams start to prepare for the NFL Scouting Combine, and Pro Day to gauge college athletes participating in the NFL draft. The NFL draft is an opportunity for franchises to add players on rookie deals (usually cheaper than players making in free agency) and make the team better in a salary cap era. Unlike its counterpart leagues (NHL, NBA, MLB), the NFL does not have a lottery-based draft.
The upcoming 2025 NFL draft will have 257 total selections in seven rounds. The location of the draft has continually changed over the years with early years, from the mid-1930s to the mid-1960s, saw various cities being host to the event. New York City hosted the event for half a decade before future draft locations started being determined through a yearly bidding process in 2015.
