What Grade is Trey Benson?

Trey Benson is a 22-year-old running back out of Florida State who represented Seminoles at the collegiate level the last two seasons. He was selected by Arizona Cardinals in the 3nd round of the 2024 NFL draft. He is a powerful, downhill runner with a blazing speed as evident by his 4.39 40-yard dash-third fastest among all running backs at the combine. Benson declared for the 2024 NFL draft after playing for two programs at college.

The Greenville native has a history of transferring. He started his high school football career at O’Bannon High School before transferring to St. Joseph Catholic High School. He racked up 3,616 yards along with 48 touchdowns, both on ground and as a receiver in his last two seasons at school. The former 3-star recruit began his collegiate journey at Oregon in 2020.

However, his collegiate career did not start as he had planned. He had a terrible knee injury in 2020 where he tore his ACL, MCL, lateral meniscus, medial meniscus and a tendon in his hamstring all at once. In his sophomore season, Benson was used as a reserve and only had six carries for 22 yards throughout the season.

His transfer journey continued as he enrolled into Florida State University in 2022. In his 1st year as a Seminole, he played in 12 games and rushed for 969 yards on 141 carries with nine touchdowns. He also went on to tally 11 passes for 109 yards. His junior year saw further development as he went on to rush for 906 yards in 13 games. He finished the year with 14 total touchdowns along with 227 receiving yards.

Trey Benson Grade

Trey Benson had a consensus starter’s grade on him by all scouting agencies. According to The 33rd Team, he had a grade of 6.5, which made him a lower end starter. Bleacher Report had a 3rd round grade on Trey and projected him as a potential starter at the next level.

The two-time Second-Team All-ACC honoree had a Day 2 grade on him by Athlon Sports and Walter Football. Pro Football Focus had him as the number four running back and top 75 player on their draft board. As evident by various reports, Benson went exactly in the range where everyone had graded him.
