Eric Staal is a professional Canadian ice hockey player who plays as a center in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, on October 29, 1984.

Eric Staal made his professional debut in the NHL when he was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He led the team to the Stanley Cup in 2006, where they won against the Edmonton Oilers, and in that match, Eric scored 28 points. Eric was named captain of the Edmonton Oilers in 2010. Eric was traded to the New York Rangers by the Hurricanes in 2016; after a couple of months, he joined the Minnesota Wilds and played his 1000th game with the team.
