Kris Knoblauch is a Canadian professional former player turned coach who is presently in-charge of the Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League (NHL). Prior to joining the Oilers in November 2023, Knoblauch began his coaching career in in the 2006–07 season as the assistant coach of the Prince Albert Raiders in the Western Hockey League (WHL) before serving Kootenay Ice, Erie Otters, Philadelphia Flyers (assistant coach) and the Hartford Wolf Pack. Notably, he also served as the head coach of the New York Rangers for six games in 2021 and also had a tenure with Canadian U20 National Team at the IIHF World U20 Championships. Moreover, his coaching achievements include an Ed Chynoweth Cup with the Kootenay Ice, J. Ross Robertson Cup with the Erie Otters, and a silver medal with Team Canada at the World U20 Championships.
Born on September 24, 1978, in Imperial, Saskatchewan, Knoblauch had a notable 11-year playing career wherein he played in the WHL with the Red Deer Rebels for two seasons, Kootenay Ice for three seasons, and Lethbridge Hurricanes for a sole season. Knoblauch later played for the Alberta Golden Bears for five seasons in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (now U Sports). He retired in 2006 following stints with the Austin Ice Btas and the Bisons de Neuilly-sur Marne. Interestingly, he was drafted by the New York Islanders in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft but never played for them in the NHL.
