Tom Wilson plays as an alternate captain for the Washington Capitals as of May 2025. Wilson was drafted 16th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He played for the Plymouth Whalers after being selected in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection. He finished his junior hockey career with 17 points and 41 penalty minutes.
After playing junior hockey with Plymouth in the OHL, Wilson debuted in the NHL playoffs in 2013. In 2017-18, he helped Washington win the Stanley Cup. He set career highs in 2021-22 with 52 points and signed a seven-year, $45.5 million contract in 2023. Wilson has played in the NHL All-Star Game twice (2022, 2024).
