Darren Sr. Carrington graduated from James Monroe High School in 1984. He had an eight-year NFL career, playing for the Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, San Diego Chargers, and Jacksonville Jaguars. He was the Broncos' kick returner in Super Bowl XXIV, recording six returns for 146 yards, including a 39-yard return that set up the team's only touchdown. He also started in Super Bowl XXIX with the Chargers.

Darren's best season was in 1993 when he intercepted seven passes for 104 yards. Throughout his NFL career, Carrington totaled 22 interceptions for 377 yards and a touchdown, along with six kickoffs returned for 176 yards. As of 2017, Darren Sr. Carrington held several Broncos franchise playoff records, including the most kick returns in a single game and the highest average return yards in a postseason. The Jaguars later selected Carrington in the 1995 NFL Expansion Draft. After retiring, Darren Carrington became a marriage and parenting pastor at the Rock Church.
