The Players Championship is one of the most significant non-major events on the PGA Tour. It also doesn't fall within the eight signature events on the PGA Tour but is rather a prestigious event in its own right, due to a larger purse, full field, and a difficult course. It is often considered the fifth major due to its semblance to an official major. The event is annually held at the Tournament Players Club (TPC) at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Besides the winner's share of the purse, the winner receives a three-year invitation to the Masters, three-year exemptions from the U.S. Open and the Open Championship, and an exemption from the next three PGA Championships, along with 80 world ranking points. Further, if the winner is a member of the PGA Tour, they will also get 600 FedEx Cup points and a five-year exemption from the PGA Tour.
