Born on October 27, 1995, in Germany, Leon Tim Draisaitl is a professional ice hockey center and serves as an alternate captain for the Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League (NHL). Draisaitl's hockey journey began in Germany and gained recognition when he was chosen as the second overall pick in the 2012 CHL Import Draft by the Prince Albert Raiders. Following two successful seasons with the Raiders, he was selected as the third overall pick by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Draisaitl signed a three-year entry-level contract with Edmonton on August 12, 2014, Making his NHL debut on October 9, 2014, against the Calgary Flames, he scored his first NHL goal on October 24, 2014, against Carolina Hurricanes' Anton Khudobin. Draisaitl played 37 games for the Oilers during the 2014–15 season, with two goals and four assists.

Despite ups and downs for the team, Draisaitl consistently excelled, winning the Art Ross Trophy, Hart Memorial Trophy, and Ted Lindsay Award in the 2019–20 season. The 2021–22 season showcased another impressive performance, yet despite an early franchise-best record, the Oilers encountered challenges and experienced coaching changes. In the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs, Draisaitl battled through injury, contributing to the Oilers' advancement to the Western Conference Final, where they were defeated by the Colorado Avalanche.

Previously, he served as the head coach of Kölner Haie (Cologne Sharks) in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) from November 2017 to January 2019.

As a member of the German minority in Czechoslovakia, Draisaitl participated in various international tournaments, representing both West Germany and Germany. Peter Draisaitl played in the German League, and he participated in three Olympics for Germany in Nagano (1998), Albertville (1992), and Calgary (1988). Draisaitl enjoyed an eighteen-year playing career in professional hockey in Germany, notably with Mannheimer ERC (now Adler Mannheim) and Kölner EC (now Kölner Haie). He also had brief stints with Moskitos Essen and Revierlöwen Oberhausen. After his playing career, Peter Draisaitl turned to coaching. He has been involved in coaching in the German League for many years.
