It turned out to be a pretty dominating performance with the ball from the Sydney Thunder as they went onto win a hard fought contest against the Melbourne Renegades by runs to register their 3rd win of the competition. The opening duo of Josh Brown and Jake Fraser-McGurk came out to open the innings. Brown was positive from the outset and smashed some lusty blows to get the Renegades off to a very good start. 31 runs came off the powerplay but Fraser-McGurk found it difficult to get going.

He took his time initially and tried to play a Warner-type innings but couldn't quite carry on. Tim Seifert came out at the fall of Brown’s wicket and couldn't quite get used to the pace of the pitch. He was dismissed by Wes Agar before Jacob Bethell was deceived by a dipping full toss from Daniel Sams only to see his stumps getting castled.

Laurie Evans then tried to stitch a partnership with JFM but the latter ended up chipping a Chris Green delivery back to the bowler and the Renegades kept losing their way. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals. When Mackenzie Harvey and Will Sutherland was dismissed off consecutive deliveries of Wes Agar, the writing was almost on the wall.

However, until and unless they got the wicket of Laurie Evans, the Renegades still had a chance. He scored 14 runs from the 18th over but was dismissed off the final delivery which was the final nail in the coffin for them. Tom Rogers struck some lusty blows towards the end but it was all for a lost cause. Wes Agar was the pick of the bowlers, bagging 4 wickets while Daniel Sams chipped in with a couple to stall their progress.

This victory gives us great momentum as we travel for two back to back away games. I have been hitting it well in the nets and have got some starts. It's about execution on this wicket and I'm glad to have been able to do that. Credit to the boys for being brave and bowling the dot balls under pressure. Agar is unbelievable and he is clear with his plans. It was hard to keep him on the bench and he will be a big part of the campaign for us this year. "

However Sams flew at the boundary line and pulled it back inside to save five runs. Not that it would have mattered but the Thunder have clinched a good victory in some style.
