NFL Preseason Week 2 2024-25

The team rosters paint a clearer picture in NFL preseason week 2. The better players rise to the top after two weeks of joint practices against opponents and with one game under the belt. August 15, 2024 - Philadelphia Eagles @ New England Patriots

Jalen Hurts will be the likely starter but with Roseman trading for former first round pick Kenny Pickett during the offseason, the competition will be good in the Eagles side. It could also be an important move in a league where QBs often get injured.

This game against the Patriots might give a good idea on how Pickett actually looks with a talented offensive coordinator and a strong receiving core surrounding him. Certain analysts believe Pickett didn’t fulfill his true potential due to the lack of a good offensive play caller in Pittsburgh. This matchup could be the start of a new chapter for Kenny Pickett.

August 17, 2024 - New York Giants @ Houston Texans

Daniel Jones is coming back from an injury-riddled season with a lot to prove. The Giants can reportedly release Jones after the 2024 season without taking a cap hit. Hence, starting this preseason, Jones will have to use the time on the pitch to showcase his importance to the team.

Even if Jones does not start against the Texans, it will still be an important matchup for the Giants. In the absence of Jones, we might get to see who the preferred backup QB is between new addition Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito. This game could also be an important outing for young Malik Nabers, who is carrying a lot of expectations on his shoulders.

August 17, 2024 - Cincinnati Bengals @ Chicago Bears

The Bengals are highly dependent on Joe Burrow. With their main man returning from a wrist surgery sustained last season, the Bengals will want to get him down for as many reps as possible in the preseason to prepare him for the long-haul of the 2024 NFL campaign.

August 17, 2024 - Minnesota Vikings @ Cleveland Browns

The Browns will have DeShaun Watson coming in after an injury-riddled season last time out. Despite having talent on either side of the ball, the lack of consistent quality at quarterback has affected their performances.

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski will want to use these preseason games to get some gametime under Watson’s belt. The Vikings defense, which ranked in the bottom half last year, will likely be an easy test for Watson - making it a suitable game for him to return to the fold.

August 18, 2024 - New Orleans Saints @ San Francisco 49ers

Derek Carr is the unquestioned starter for the New Orleans Saints. However, going into the new season, they have larger questions to answer - will Spencer Rattler be a good backup for Saints? Also, does he have the potential to one day succeed Carr, who will turn 34 next year?

Rattler was drafted in the fourth round by the Saints earlier this year. Hence, giving him time on the field in the preseason could be crucial to get a better understanding of his current standard. It will also give the Saints a clearer idea if Rattler has the potential to one day take over from Carr.
