Samuel Montembeault is a Canadian goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens, as of February 2025. He was drafted 77th overall by the Florida Panthers in the 2015 NHL Draft. Montembeault made his professional debut in 2017 with the Springfield Thunderbirds of the AHL and earned his first NHL call-up in 2019. He played in a 4–3 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes and later made several appearances with the Panthers.
In 2021, Montembeault was claimed off the waivers by the Montreal Canadiens. He became the team's primary backup goaltender after Carey Price took a leave of absence. Montembeault was re-signed to a two-year contract extension in 2022 and continued to impress, especially in the 2022–23 season. Montembeault played in a career-high 41 games and signed a three-year, $9.45 million deal in December 2023. He set an NHL record for most saves in a season-opening shutout in 2024.
