Igor Olegovich Shestyorkin is a Russian professional ice hockey goaltender currently playing with the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League. Born on December 30, 1995, he was selected in the fourth round (118th overall pick) by the New York Rangers in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He gained recognition in the 2021-2022 season when he was honored with the Vezina Trophy as the top goaltender of the league.

Shesterkin played his youth hockey in the Kontinental Hockey League with the Krylya Sovetov Moscow where he was selected in the 2012 KHL Draft when he was 16. He made his professional KHL debut in the 2013-2014 season and showcased his skills there. His stand-out performance was a victory over HC Slovan Bratislava. He made 33 saves in a 3-0 shutout victory over them. Shesterkin also played in the MHL, the junior league of KHL with the MHK Spartak where he contributed to the playoff games. Seeing his skills, SKA Saint Petersburg signed him in 2014 despite his selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft with the New York Rangers.

The 27-year-old goaltender is set to earn a salary of $7,000,000 with a cap hit of $5,666,667 for the 2023-24 season. His salary comprises $2,000,000 as a signing bonus and $5,000,000 as base salary. Drafted in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, he has signed a total of two contracts in his NHL career valued at $30,216,667. The first contract that he signed was a three-year contract he signed with the Rangers for $7,550,000 and the second contract he signed was a four-year contract extension for $22,666,667. He is currently under a four-year contract with the New York Rangers with a cap hit of $5,666,667. His estimated NHL career earnings are $10,357,923.

Igor Shesterkin NHL Journey

His journey in the NHL has been marked by many stellar performances, establishing his name as one of the top goaltenders in the league. Before his NHL debut, he played with the Rangers' affiliate team Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL, where he contributed to the team with 26 saves and claimed victory over the Charlotte Checkers on his AHL debut. Shesterkin got his NHL Entry due to his stellar performance in the AHL.

Igor Shesterkin signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Rangers on May 3, 2019, and made his debut on January 7, 2020, where he showcased his talent by making 29 saves and leading his team to win over the Colorado Avalanche. Two days later, he became the sixth goaltender from the New Jersey Devils to win his first two games. In August 2021, Shesterkin signed a four-year extension contract with the New Jersey Devils for $22.67 million. In the same season, he recorded many saves in the regular season due to which he won the Vezina Trophy. This feat solidified his status as the best goaltender on the team.

He also made his impact in the playoffs with an impressive 79 saves against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He also played a crucial role in the Eastern Conference Final where they faced the Tampa Bay Lightning.

He stood out in the 2022-2023 season, earning a place in the 2023 NHL All-Star Game. However, the Rangers could not secure a place in the playoffs but Shesterkin maintained a good record with a .931 save percentage. Sherterkin' journey in the NHL has been marked by many impressive performances. He is yet to show his best performances in the upcoming seasons.
