Mikko Rantanen is a Finnish Ice-hockey forward, who currently serves as an alternate captain for the Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League (NHL). Rantanen was selected 10th overall in the first round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche and made his NHL debut that same year.

Before the NHL, Mikko played in Finnish SM-liiga with HC TPS, as a forward, making his debut during the 2012-2013 season where he scored three points with two goals and one assist in 15 games. Coming into his third season with TPS, Rantanen was named as the alternate captain of the team. During the same season, he recorded 28 points with nine goals and 19 assists in 56 games from the 2014-2015 season.

He concluded his Finnish SM-Liiga career in 2015 and was eligible for the NHL draft. Rantanen was considered as the Top European Skater before the NHL draft. He was selected by theColorado Avalanche on July 13, 2015, and signed a three-year entry-level contract with them. He made his NHL debut on 8 October 2015. Since his debut, Rantanen has made a name for himself and is an integral part of the Avalanche setup.
