Mikko Rantanen plays for the Dallas Stars as an ice-hockey forward as of 2025. He was selected by the Colorado Avalanche (10th overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut that same year. Before the NHL, Mikko played in Finnish SM-liiga with HC TPS, as a forward, making his debut during the 2012-2013 season where he scored three points with two goals and one assist in 15 games.

He concluded his Finnish SM-Liiga career in 2015 and was eligible for the NHL draft. Rantanen was considered as the Top European Skater before the NHL draft. He was selected by the Colorado Avalanche on July 13, 2015, and signed a three-year entry-level contract with them. He made his NHL debut on October 8, 2015. After playing with the Avalanche for a decade, Rantanen was traded to the Hurricanes in 2025 and in the same year, he joined the Dallas Stars.
