Colorado Avalanche v Dallas Stars - Game One

Ryan Suter, born on January 21, 1985, is an American professional ice hockey defenseman for the Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League (NHL). Growing up, Ryan Suter played for the Madison Capitols and Culver Military Academy before joining the USA Hockey National Development Team in Ann Arbor, Michigan. However, a change in the NCAA legislation saw him enroll and play University of Wisconsin–Madison while remaining eligible for the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Suter was eventually drafted seventh overall by the Nashville Predators.

Notably, he spent only a single season with the Wisconsin Badgers before he signed a contract with the Predators and thus began his professional journey with their AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals. The following years saw Suter develop himself into a regular for the Predators, before a decade long stay at Minnesota ensued. Talking about his achievements, on October 19, 2018, in a 3–1 victory over the Dallas Stars, Ryan Suter recorded his 500th NHL point, becoming the 11th American-born defenseman to achieve this milestone. Later, on October 25, he played his 1,000th NHL game, making him the 109th defenseman to reach this landmark.

On July 13, 2021, the Minnesota Wild bought out the remaining four years of his contract and as a result, Suter joined the Dallas Stars on a $14.6 million multi-year contract.
