Sebastian Aho is a Finnish ice hockey professional who currently serves as an alternative captain for the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League. Born on July 26, 1997, he was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2015 NHL Entry draft and made his debut in the 2016-2017 season. Before the NHL, Aho started his professional hockey career in his hometown Finland with Oulun Kärpät in the Finnish SM-liiga. Aho quickly stood out and gained recognition for his impressive performance. Due to his exceptional skills in the Liiga, he became a top prospect for the 2015 NHL Entry draft.

Aho belongs to an athletic family, his father Harri Aho is a former ice hockey professional in his home country Finland, and has experience playing with various teams. His father played an important role in nurturing Sebastian's hockey passion and contributed to his skill development. Sebastian's younger brother Jesperi Aho also plays ice hockey with the JYP Jyvaskyla in Finnish Liiga, Finland. Both Aho brothers have showcased their strong performances and carrying forward the sport legacy.

Sebastian Aho Contract

Sebastian is set to earn a salary of $6,025,000 with a cap hit of $8,460,250 for the 2023-24 NHL season. His salary comprises $5,250,000 as signing bonus and $775,000 as a base salary. He was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2015 NHL Entry draft and since then he has signed three contracts with a value of $125,620,000. The first contract he signed was a three-year contract with the Hurricanes for $5,325,000. He extended his contract with them for $42,295,000 for five years. Aho is currently under an eight-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes for $78,000,000 with a cap hit of $9,750,000 each year until the 2031-2032 season. The contract has a 15 team no trade list for the 2031-32 season. He has played a total of eight seasons in the NHL and collected 484 points in 536 regular games plus 58 points in 63 playoff games.

Sebastian Aho NHL Journey

Aho was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round (35th overall pick) of the 2015 NHL Entry draft. During his draft, he was among the top 20 European players eligible for the draft. He signed his first contract on June 13, 2016, with the Hurricanes and made his NHL debut on October 13. He immediately established his name by scoring an assist in his debut game on November 12 and claimed victory against the Washington Capitals. He marked his impact when he hit his first hat trick against the Philadelphia Flyers, making him the youngest player in the Hurricanes’ history to do so. In the 2019-2020 season. Aho again showcased his power and became a key player in the Hurricanes’ setup and broke the record for longest season-opening point streak and made an NHL record for scoring a point in every game (12 games)from the start of the season. Due to his impressive performances, he earned a spot in the NHL All-Star Game in 2019. He scored his second hat-trick against the Nashville Predators in a 6-3 win.

Sebastian has scored a total of seven hat tricks in his NHL career. His dominance continued and Aho signed an extension contract with the Carolina Hurricanes on his 26th birthday on July 26, 2023. He signed an eight-year-long contract with them for $78 million with a cap hit of $9,750,000.
