Victor Erik Hedman is a Swedish ice hockey defenseman and an alternate captain for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League (NHL). Born on December 18, 1990, he was selected second overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Hedman began his junior hockey career in the Swedish J20 SuperElit with the Modo Hockey Organization before making his professional debut with them at the age of 16. He stayed with the organization until the 2008-09 season and was listed as the highest-rated European skater available by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau. He was soon drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning and made his NHL debut against the Atlanta Thrashers.
