Tilak Varma was born in Hyderabad, Telangana on November 8, 2002. The promising young all-rounder made his first-class debut against Andhra Pradesh in 2018.

In December 2019, Tilak Varma was named in India's squad for the 2020 U-19 Cricket World Cup. Following his impressive display, he attracted interests from many of the franchises during the IPL 2022 mega auction. He was finally picked up by Mumbai Indians for a total amount of Rs 1.70 crore and went on to make his IPL debut on March 27 against Delhi Capitals.
