The pitches at JSK are deliberately made drier. All the covers have been off since the last 6-7 hours, the sun has been baking out. Very dry, very cracked and very abrasive. SEC ended up 17 for 4 a couple days ago with Sipamla and Viljoen absolutely running riot. That is why Faf du Plessis is desperate to bowl. The ball holds onto the surface under the sunlight. As they've tried to do with the ball early in their bowling innings this tournament, the Paarl Royals bowlers tried to apply the squeeze right from the start. They were doing a good job at it until the halfway mark of the powerplay - Fortuin got the ball to slide through, Ngidi hit the deck hard but was slightly off with his line, and Maphaka racked up some serious pace in his first over.

The floodgates opened up for JSK in the fourth over - 21 runs came off Dayyaan Galiem's first over of the night as Faf du Plessis deposited a couple of deliveries deep into the banks at mid wicket. 12 more came off the two following overs as JSK ended the powerplay with 45 on the board. Du Plessis and Conway tried to build on the start, but the latter was undone by a beauty from Mujeeb in the 8th over.

Du Plessis kept going - Leus du Plooy found the going tough initially, but that didn't phase the Super Kings skipper one bit. He was in a zone of his own, clearing the boundary twice off Dudgeon in the 9th over, helping take 14 off it. Du Plessis reached his fifty a couple of overs later and went up a gear or two - the equation dropped close to a run-a-ball going into the last six overs of the chase.

At one stage, a bonus point seemed like a realistic target for the Joburg Super Kings - they needed 36 off two overs to get there, which turned into 26 off one. But the hopes of that extra point went up in smoke once du Plessis picked Pretorius out at deep square off Keith Dudgeon. JSK had a hiccup or two as Ferreira perished trying to finish things off, but they were home and dry eventually as du Plooy pinched the winning runs with a ramp over the keeper. Ferreira was in a hurry to finish the game, you'd think. He had the license to do so, but perished having picked the wrong ball to have a swing at.

16.5 Lungi Ngidi to Donovan Ferreira, CAUGHT AT LONG-OFF! Leg cutter on a hard length. Ferreira charged down the track and slammed it straight, only to pick out Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who pouched it safely.

16.4 Lungi Ngidi to Donovan Ferreira, slower bumper, doesn't quite get as high as Ngidi would have wanted. The batter slashed at it and missed. Royals have appealed for a caught behind. They even send it upstairs as the on-field umpire denies it. Nothing on UltraEdge. In fact, the review was taken more in hope than anything else.
