Jhye Richardson (Player of the Match): "We have been traditionally a side that has started slow and then caught up later on. Good to start with a win here. (About the bowling attack firing as a whole) That is the best thing about the Scorchers. It is not just one player, multiple players chip in. That is what we pride ourselves on. (Regarding the fan support) It makes a real difference, we love our fans and it is awesome to put on a show for them. (On his celebration injury in the Sheffield Shield) Was pretty happy with the ball and pumped up, was caught in an awkward angle but came back and bowled 30 overs. Was a bit of a slip-up but came back to bowl, so it is all good."

It all started with team Melbourne Stars winning the toss and deciding to bat first. They struggled a lot in the initial few overs and looked low on confidence against the mature and experienced bowling lineup of Perth Scorchers. Jhye Richardson was unplayable and insane with his pace and bouncers. The opening pair of Joe Clarke and Thomas Rogers took about two overs to get their scoreboard off the mark, but then they were unable to sustain the dot ball pressure on them for long and threw back their wickets in a hurry. Later on, skipper Marcus Stoinis stepped in and played a crucial knock of 37 runs. Tom Curran also contributed in the end really well and with this Melbourne, Stars posted 146 runs on the board. In terms of bowling, all their bowlers got a wicket tonight except Hamish McKenzie.

Team Perth Scorchers came out to chase and they also lost both their openers Finn Allen and Keaton Jennings under a score of 10. Their chase looked to go for a toss, but then Cooper Connolly came in and spent a reasonable amount of time with his bat in the middle and scored 64 runs off just 51 deliveries. Later when Connolly moved back, the contest looked head-to-head and it seemed going down to the wire but skipper Ashton Turner had some other plans. He scored a blistering 37 off 27 and led Perth Scorchers to the victory along with Nick Hobson's few majestic shots in the end.

With all this team Perth Scorchers kicked off their BBL season 14 on a high note with an easy win in their backyard.
