Charlie McAvoy Family

Charlie McAvoy is an American professional ice hockey defenseman and alternate captain for the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League (NHL). Moreover, he has spent his entire professional career with the Boston Bruins (2017-present). As a kid, McAvoy played in the 2010 Quebec InternationalPee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the New York Rangers youth team. However, in August 2013, he committed to Boston University where he would play with the Boston University Terriers. In college, he was coached by David Quinn, and they paired him with another talented defenseman, Matt Grzecyk, who would also go on to play in the NHL. McAvoy was part of the gold medal-winning team at the 2015 IIHF World U18 Championships and won a bronze medal with the U-20 team at the 2016 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships.

Charlie McAvoy Jr was born to parents Charlie McAvoy Sr. and Jennifer McAvoy. Notably, his father owned Charlie A.Mcavoy Plumbing and heating in Long Beach for four generations while his mother, Jennifer, was a teacher at an elementary school in Bethpage, New York.

Just a few blocks from their home is the Long Beach Municipal Ice Arena, where the Rangers used to practice. Charlie’s grandfather, Bob, used to train many Rangers players, including Jean Ratelle, John Fergusin, Brad Park, Walt Tkaczuk, and Ron Greschener. Charlie’s father, Charlie Sr., used to play hockey and baseball with John Fergusn Jr., who used to work for the Bruins. The Rangers would often give them tickets to games at Madison Square Garden.BEven though Charlie Jr. was born three years after the Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994, he spent many hours as a kid watching their championship on VHS.

Charlie McAvoy has three sisters, who he says are his biggest fans and are his best friends. His three sisters are Kayla, Holly and Heather McAvoy. Kayla currently works as an Assistant Sports Scientist at Madison Square Garden Sports Corp., a position she has held since August 2023.

Heather McAvoy is in her senior year in high school and has played for the Selected Academy at Bishop Kearney and participated in volleyball, ice hockey, and lacrosse for the Kings. Holly McAvoy is Charlie McAvoy’s younger sister and twin sister to Heather McAvoy. Presently, Holly studies at SUNY Cortland and attended Long Beach Senior High School. Moreover, She currently lives in Long Beach, New York.

Charlie McAvoy’s Wife

Charlie McAvoy married his longtime girlfriend, Kiley Sullivan in August 2023. Notably, they met at Boston University and got engaged in July 2022 in Italy. Additionally, Kiley is the daughter of Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan.

They met through friends in their freshman dorm years ago and bonded over their mutual love for hockey. She recently completed a nursing degree at MGH Institute of Health Professions.

Charlie proposed to Kiley with a cushion-cut diamond on a boat under Faraglioni Rocks off the coast of Capri ( Summer of 2022). Interestingly, Bruins captain Brad Marchand suggested the romantic scenario. Furthermore, following a ceremony officiated by Kiley’s uncle Marsh Chapel at the couple’s alma mater, 268 guests celebrated at the Boston Public Library. They dined on seared filet mignon and Lump crab cake and enjoyed an ice-themed disco after-party.
