Dallas Cowboys Roster
Source:- Getty Image
The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team based in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Texas, competing in the NFL in its NFC East division. The Cowboys, who have failed to even make it to the NFC Championship game since their last Super Bowl run in 1996, will be once again entering the season with high pressure and expectations as always. However, unlike their previous years, Cowboys have not made any significant splash in the offseason. This might be a cause of concern seeing how their divisional rivals in the Eagles just got better during the same time period. It would be interesting to see whether the current Dallas Cowboys roster is capable of getting over their playoff hump in the upcoming season.
Dak Prescott is entering the last year of his contract and there have been no major implications from either Jerry Jones or Prescott to get the extension done anytime soon. Even though, future at QB position is unknown going forward for Dallas, at least for 2024, fans will be watching a familiar face take snaps under center. The running back conversation is a fascinating one as Dallas lost their 1000-yard rusher in Tony Pollard, while simultaneously getting former Cowboy Ezekiel Elliot, who has not rushed for 1000 yards since 2021, to lead the backfield. Losing Michael Gallup’s presence in the Cowboys receiving room has put slightly more pressure on the newly highest paid wide receiver in the league in CeeDee Lamb to take his game to the next level. Brandin Cooks and Jake Ferguson will be complimenting Lamb in the passing game. After losing two key offensive lineman in the offseason in center Biadasz and LT Tyron Smith, it will be up to two rookies in Cooper Beebe and 2024 1st round pick Tyler Guyton to fill their shoes.
The top-5 defense in 2023 (via FOX Sports) will be once again spearheaded by superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons, who along with Jordan Philips and DeMarcus Lawrence, form a formidable defensive line. Former Viking Eric Kendricks will be seen patrolling the middle of the field. The secondary unit will see Trevon Diggs make his return, after missing the majority of the last season due to an injury. However, he will have his partner Bland on the outside for the first 6-8 weeks due to an injury. Jourdan Lewis will serve as the nickel CB, while Malik Hooker and Donovan Wilson lead the safety group.
McCarthy’s 5th season in Dallas might be his most challenging one since he became Cowboys head coach back in 2020. Not only has the Cowboys offseason been surprising, but the team also lost their DC Dan Quinn, who is now serving as the HC of their divisional rival Commanders. However, fans and the front office have big expectations from their new DC Mike Zimmer, who has previously served as the HC of the Vikings.
