The Denver Broncos are a professional American football team based in Denver, Colorado, competing in the NFL in its AFC West division. The last time the Broncos were in the postseason, Peyton Manning was still in the league while Tom Brady had only 4 Super Bowls to show for. Since the 2015 SB run, Denver has not been able to find the heir apparent to Peyton Manning. From putting faith in Brock Osweiler to trading for Russell Wilson in 2022, Broncos quarterback carousel has known no bounds. However, after selecting Sean Payton’s guy in the first round of the 2024 draft, there is real optimism in Bronco land when it comes to their new signal caller Bo Nix.
After competing with Zach Wilson and Stidham throughout training camp and a couple of preseason games, Nix was finally given the nod to lead the team from under center come week 1. He will be supported by a ground attack consisting of Williams and rookie Estime. While there is only one 1000-yard receiver on the team in Sutton, Mims, Reynolds, Dulcich and Nix’s former teammate from Oregon in Troy Franklin, provide a well-rounded pass-catching cast for the first-year QB. Even after the departure of Lloyd Cushenberry, the Broncos front provides good stability in Bolles, Meinerz, Powers and McGlinchey.
The defense which ranked 29th (mainly due to the Dolphins hanging 70 on them in week 3) in 2023 according to FOX Sports got much better in 2nd half. Zach Allen and Roach’s additions give a strong presence to Denver at the line of scrimmage, which they badly needed after having 3rd worst rushing defense last season (via FOX Sports). Browning, Singleton and Cooper are set in stone at the linebacker position but who will start on the outside opposite Patrick Surtain is still up in the air. Justin Simmons' release in the offseason has left the door open at safety, which has been one of the most unsettled positions on the Denver Broncos roster going into 2024.
Sean Payton going into his second season as the Broncos HC has mostly brought back the same coaching staff. It would be intriguing to watch how Payton’s handpicked QB fits into the current system, which wasn’t the case with Russ last year.
