The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football team based in Kansas City, Missouri, and compete in the NFL and its AFC West division. Chiefs dream of becoming the first team ever to win a 3-peat in the SB era resides on the shoulders of their three superstar players: Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Chris Jones. While Mahomes and Kelce see to it that the juggernaut which is Chiefs offense keeps going, 5-time Pro Bowler Chris Jones will be given the responsibility to see that the 2nd ranked defense (via Pro Football Reference) in the league from 2023 does not fall off.
Needless to say, the two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes is the biggest anchor on the offensive side of the ball and backing him up will be former 2nd overall pick Carson Wentz. To complement Patrick is four-time First-Team All-Pro Travis Kelce, who is considered by many to be one of the greatest tight ends ever to grace the field and backing him up will be Noah Gray. The departure of Marquez Valdes-Scantling was filled by adding the fastest player in the history of the combine through the 2024 draft i.e. Xavier Worthy. Newly acquired Hollywood Brown and postseason rookie receptions record holder, Rashee Rice, round out the top 3 at the wideout group. Other notable names to keep an eye on will be newly added JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mecole Hardman, Skyy Moore, and Justin Watson. The heavy backfield workload will be once again distributed between Isiah Pacheo and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Deneric Prince might be RB3 on the roster. Kansas City Chiefs roster boasts one of the best interior offensive lines in the league, which consists of guard Joe Thuney, center Creed Humphrey, and RG Trey Smith. Jawaan Taylor will be holding the fort at one tackle position while the other side will be up for grabs between Wanya Morris and Kingsley Suamataia. The only notable loss from this group came in the form of their former backup guard Nick Allegretti.
On the flip side, the Chiefs main strength lies on their defensive line (team had 2nd most sacks in 2023). The interior line, which consists of perennial pro bowlers Chris Jones, Derrick Nnadi, and Tershawn Wharton, had 13.5 sacks between them. Edge Group, which consists of George Karlaftis and Mike Danna, combined to take down the opposing QBs 17 times. Anudike-Uzomah will be backing them up. The top three of Nick Bolton, Leo Chenal, and Drue Tranquill will be handed the coverage assignments at linebacker position. The biggest offseason loss for Kansas City came in the form of cornerback L’Jarius Sneed. Leading the way for the group will be their 2nd year player, Trent McDuffie, who was graded out as the 4th best CB in the league (via PFF). Rounding out the starting rotation will be Joshua Williams, Jaylen Watson, and injury return Nazeeh Johnson. Completing the defensive back position are Justin Reid, Bryan Cook, and Jaden Hicks as safeties. Harrison Butker, Matt Araiza, and James Winchester round out special team members.
Once again, the Chiefs would be led by their HC, Andy Reid, who will be entering his 12th season with Kansas City. No major changes have happened on the coaching staff, with Matt Nagy and Steve Spagnuola both returning as the coordinators.
