The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) was originally established in 1950 as a successor to the Women's Professional Golf Association (WPGA). The latter organization was founded in 1944 but disbanded in 1949. LPGA was established in Wichita, Kansas, by 13 female golfers, including Louise Suggs, Babe Zaharias, Patty Berg, and Marilynn Smith. As of January 2025, its headquarters are in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The LPGA Tour is not part of the PGA (men's) organization; it is an independent entity. There are some parallels between the two, though, such as the LPGA's developmental tour (the "Epson Tour") and its tour for women 45 and older (the "Legends Tour"). Unlike the PGA, which has four major championships, the LPGA has five. Moreover, the LPGA has broadcast partnerships with the Golf Channel, NBC Sports, and CBS Sports.
Full 2025 LPGA Tour Schedule
The 2025 LPGA Tour schedule begins on January 30 with the commencement of the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, and the season concludes with the Grant Thornton Invitational on December 14. The former is the season's final tournament, and while it has a purse, it does not provide CME points, a variant of the PGA's FedEx Cup points. The CME Group Tour Championship, the LPGA's season finale, takes place as the season's penultimate event.
According to the LPGA schedule, the regular season concludes in August; until then, all five major championships are played, followed by fall events such as the TOTO Japan Classic, the ANNIKA Driven by Gainbridge, and the Maybank Championship, among others. Unlike the PGA, the LPGA's fall events are extremely valuable since they provide CME points equal to those earned at regular-season events. Gaining more points increases the likelihood of competing in the CME Group Tour Championship, which typically occurs in late November or early December.
