The oldest and most prominent tour for golf, the Professional Golfers Association (PGA), organizes golf tournaments throughout the year. It is a nonprofit with its main office in the Florida suburb of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Originally founded in December 1929 by the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA of America), it was split into a separate organization in December 1968.
The schedule of the PGA Tour for the season usually consists of four majors, eight to 10 signature events, FedEx Fall events, and the rest being regular events. The PGA also consists of other tours and mini-tours like the Ladies Professional Golfers Association (LPGA), PGA Tour Champions, PGA Tour Americas, and Korn Ferry Tour, with their respective qualifications.

The golf season technically begins in September-October, concluding in the following year’s August-September. The PGA Tour season is structured so that it ends with the FedEx Cup Playoffs event after determining a season winner through a season-long points race. After the playoffs, the FedEx Cup fall events take place at the end of the year, between September and December, but they are primarily used to earn sponsorship exception spots and FedEx Cup points, and improve golfers' status for the following season.
Thus, the 2025 golf season began in September 2024 with fall events, but the official regular season began in January 2025 with larger purses and more FedEx Cup points, eventually ending in August 2025 with the Tour Championship, which determines the season winner, and then the FedEx Cup Fall events resumed in a loop for the following season.
